Just yesterday I had a year and a half ago follow-up to a intramuscular lipoma which seems to have gotten bigger and more problmatic to me. I have constant pain in my back when I lie down or recline as it is on the upper left back shoulder area. I went to a surgeon who without having it checked out further just wanted a CAT scan done to mark the spot so he knew where to cut without having a clue where all this thing has infiltrated. It is my massage therapist who has been telling me that I need to have it checked out as she feels it has become much more invasive. I have tried to find something similar to this on the internet to read about, but have had no luck. Has anyone had anything similar to this and how did they treat it? I am not thrilled about having a surgeon get it there and just start cutting without knowing really what is going on.
intramuscular lipoma
Did you have it checked out by your primary physician first?
Lipoma is prob pressing against the nerves. Have it removed and post back on your result!
My massage therapist found a moderate sized one (5cm x3cm) on my outer thigh. I had an ultrasound last week and am awaiting the results. I have a friend who had one the same size removed 2 weeks ago and it turned out to be a liposarcoma. Her surgeon didn't think it would turn out to be, but the histopathology report confirmed that it was a sarcoma. I am inclined to have mine removed as well due to the fact that they can't tell the difference between a lipoma and liposarcoma without removing the tumor and analyzing it through pathology.
Even my aunt has a lot of pain due to Lipoma , especially on her upper arm . I guess these are some of the major problems caused by Lipoma . I have heard several kinds of related problmes by some of the major Lipoma patients . I even heard some extreme and rare cases where people have to use some kind of wheelchair van due to major growth of Lipoma .

I had my intramuscular lipoma removed twice - six months apart, and the surgeon promised me it would be back, which it is. The surgeries were a pain, but I did have a few years without the unsightliness. I've been reading about lasers used to treat lipomas, but it doesn't sound like it would be effective on the intramuscular ones. I can't seem to figure out if there are any surgeons who really specialize in lipoma removal - all the plastic surgeons claim they do, but when I went to a plastic surgeon and he saw what it was, he sent me to a general surgeon. So here I am stuck with another grapefruit in my thigh. If anybody knows of a doctor who specializes in lipomas, let me know, but it sounds like since only 1% of the population gets them, and most are not intramuscular, no doctor would bother.
